Social media based fashion

With the internet being such an enormous marketplace it comes as no surprise that something of interest to your fashion sense starts to pop up on your phone, but these posts and ads sometimes tend to pop up more often the more you explain your interests. This is something that affects anyone with an online presence and who actively uses the internet, what are the pros and cons of social media based fashion?

Fashion consciousness is something that has rapidly grown with the rise of social media based marketing. This has positives as it promotes the brand and helps it go to large lengths, but as good as that sounds this has also pressured designers to rush with their ideas, for them to sometimes come out as disappointing. This is not only with fashion as it is also prominent on YouTube with beauty content because when an item has such a high expectation and it fails to deliver, that product then is no longer in the limelight and is pushed to the wayside. Even if the company tries to improve it will never have the notoriety that it had before, this comes as a con due to the fact that fashion trends are changing faster than ever because of globalizing society.

Engaging with brands through social media

Is it easier to shop online? Yes! And especially now since everything is marketed and worn by people we actively engage with and follow on social media. We see something we like and we want to buy it, and most of the time there are sales for new members so that makes the purchase even sweeter when made. This is not something that is generally bad if the clothes are bought from sustainable brands and most see this as something positive because people can really choose what interests them in the realm of fashion.

Social media fashion and sustainability is something that is wanted and if searched for easy to find, but most of the people who see something they would like to purchase will most likely try to find it for cheap which means that they are buying clothes that are mass-produced at low prices or fast fashion.

What can we do to stop this?

Research, time, and effort. Find out how to be a smart shopper and support local businesses or fashion brands that are sustainable and leave that as a message to others!

Thank you!đź’•

  1. Hello!
It is great, that you mentioned, that it is important to support small fashion producers and not only the mass-produced ones. Of course, it is cheaper for us, but it also may have lower quality, which we should also think about. Because, if we buy something cheaper, but with the less quality, we will have to buy it again (a new product) sooner, so finally we will pay usually much more than if we invested more money at first place and then have the specific peace of clothes for much longer. It always pays off. And it as more ecological as well, which we should take in consideration as well.
So, I think that it is great that you emphasized that, thank you! :)
