What the Experts Say II
Fast Fashion and Social Media
Fast fashion is something that is greatly talked about and something that has been mentioned in this blog numerous times, but it does deserve its special place for a deep dive.
Mostly seen on social media, as with most fashion trends, research has found that Instagram is the most dominating website for marketing fast fashion. This is mostly due because of the way influencers interact on those sites. Instagram can be a very intimate place between influencers and is influenced mostly because of how we view a certain person. Funnily enough, when said influencer rises to power it is not uncommon to see them promoting their own brand, clothes, makeup, and much more, and sometimes even the brands that are promoted and made by these influencers have come off as quite disappointing. It is clear to see that some people on the internet do not really value sustainability if they are willing to showcase that through their own products.
Companies have this approach because of the intimate way it will be advertised, shown, and talked about, but sometimes this does not have to be a brand deal it can just be by word of mouth. However, because there can't be a true view from all the customer's side we do not really know the true story of how this affects consumers. What we do know is that this way of advertising is often seen but not something that is often criticized.
What are some of your views on influencers who promote fast fashion?
Thank you💕
